The Problem of Universals in Mulla Sadra's Philosophy
The problem of universals and the quality of their existence is one of the most important philosophical problems that Mulla Sadra has extensively dealt with in his philosophy.
The mode of universal existence and the quality of its perception are two basic questions in the ontology and epistemology of universals. In this book, the author has tried to find the answers to these two questions in Mulla Sadra's philosophy. Accordingly, the contents of this book have been organized in two chapters. The first chapter, titled "Ontology of Universals in Mulla Sadra's Philosophy" discusses the logical universal, natural universal, and rational universal, and then presents several interpretations of Platonic Ideas. At the end of this chapter, the writer examines "Realism in Comparison to Natural and Rational Universals".
The second chapter, titled "Epistemology of Universals in Mulla Sadra's Philosophy, deals with the quality of the perception of universals. In this chapter, Mulla Sadra's specific theory concerning the quality of the perception of universals is posed and compared with the theory of Peripatetic philosophers in this regard. Here, the writer also discusses the emanating uprising of sense and imaginal perceptions to the soul and the related criticisms and explains this kind of uprising based on presential and acquired types of knowledge. The last part of this chapter concentrates on union with the Active Intellect and the observation of images at the time of intellection. The book "The Problem of Universals in Mulla Sadra's Philosophy" by Ahmad Asgari has been published by the Sadra Islamic Philosophy Institute in 224 pages.
